What is the history of The People's Independent Party

The People's Independent Party was formed in 2020 to campaign for change in Castle Point, ultimately to replace politician councillors who run the local council with independent campaigners who put people before party every time. PIP believes that local people want their political representatives to stand up for them, to fight on behalf of local people and to deliver better services.

PIP was formed by local Castle Point residents, mostly people who had not been involved with or members of another other. PIP believes that the local council needs the best local solutions, not ones imposed from Central Government, nor from unelected QUANGOs seeking to impose region wide planning solutions without recourse to the votes of the residents. Many local people believe the national parties have failed them and that is why they do not vote in local elections.

PIP is made up of locally based people, not driven by party dogma and is fighting for a better deal for the residents. Within a short time of being formed PIP fielded local council candidates and were successful in three out of the eight mainland seats up for election, finishing second in the other five, a truly astonishing result. In our second election contest in May 2022 we were successful in seven of the eight wards we contested, finishing a close second in the other. Much of this success was due to PIP informing local residents of the Local Plan for housing, and the implications of this plan, being pushed through by the Conservative grouping, on Green Belt, affordable housing and environmental issues. We formed a coalition with The Canvey Island Independent Party to form the CPBC administration and voted through the withdrawal of the disastrous Conservative Local Plan.

We started the process of building the Castle Point Plan which can be found as sound and be supported by Castle Point residents. The Castle Point Plan is on schedule to be brought forward for inspection in April 2025. After the May 2023 local elections PIP was the joint largest party alongside The Canvey Island Independent Party with 16 councillors each of the borough total of 41.

The Peoples Independent Party of Castle Point does not have any links with any other party that may have a similar name.
